The Courtyard was the proud recipient of 2018’s Outstanding H.U.D. Property of the Year awarded by the Affordable Housing Association of Indiana (AHAIN) for the work being done with youth in Allen County aging out of the foster care system.
Biggs Property Management staff, Property Manager Nikkita Overton, was accompanied on stage by Regional Manager, Cierra Thompson to receive the award. It’s wonderful to receive this type of recognition in front of multifamily leaders but more so to know that diversified housing options matter and identifying demographics most at risk and filling a void is crucial.
There is now no safety net for youth aging out of the foster care system nor a supplemental program to continue building the basic life skills that would help someone succeed on their own but The Courtyard provides 36 units with a mix of one and two bedroom apartments and through a partnership with S.C.A.N. (Stop Child Abuse & Neglect), enrichment services are offered. The Fort Wayne Housing Authority also plays a key role in helping administer H.U.D. funds that allocate subsidy to all 36 units at the property making it a premier affordable housing choice in the area.
